SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder

Treatment

For some people treatment may be as simple as spending more time outdoors or sitting near a sunny window. For other people more aggressive treatment is needed. Because increased sunlight helps relieve symptoms, a popular treatment for SAD is phototherapy using a light box. It is thought that the light mimics natural sunlight and cause chemical changes in the brain that improves your mood and reduces the symptoms of SAD. The specific type of light, distance from the light and amount of time spent under the light are important details.

If you think you have SAD, talk to your health care provider if phototherapy would be appropriate for you and how to use phototherapy for your specific case. Also, the manufacturer of the phototherapy lamp will have information on proper usage.

I knew nothing about weather at all.  My new job depended on passing the weather observer certification test.  Thanks to the patience and personal attention you gave us all, the entire class passed. JB, Texas
