Phototherapy

Dawn simulation.  Some light therapy boxes simulate dawn - they turn on in the morning while you're asleep and gradually get brighter until you wake up.

For regular phototherapy:

  • The light should be overhead. it is important that your eyes are open while you are exposed to the light so that the light can reach the retina at the back of your eyes. Of course you never want to look directly into the light in order to prevent damage to your eyes.
  • You will need to sit about 12-18 inches from the light and can do your regular activities while exposing yourself to the light. This is typically done early in the day because it may keep you awake if you do it in the evening.
  • For example, a 10,000 lux light typically requires 30 minutes of exposure, while a 5,000 lux light typically requires 60 minutes.

Of course, for some people psychotherapy and antidepressant medications are indicated as well.

"I'd worked as an observer for years, but needed to re-certify.  I learned more in this course than I ever imagined I could and I passed the exam with flying colors. I am also definately a better observer"  TS, Louisiana

I knew nothing about weather at all.  My new job depended on passing the weather observer certification test.  Thanks to the patience and personal attention you gave us all, the entire class passed. JB, Texas

"When my company sent me to this class I thought I didn't need the training.  I was wrong.  Thanks"   RB, Texas

You are the "Gold Standard" of teaching.  Absolutely the best teacher I have ever had.  DG, Louisiana
